General Experience
Since he formed SAI, Dr. Ioannides has planned and designed various types of structures, including industrial facilities, aircraft maintenance facilities, municipal facilities, parking garages, office and medical buildings, shopping centers, correctional facilities, residential facilities, theaters, performance halls. He has served on a variety of national and international committees and forums, and published dozens of papers on highly analytical, as well as practical, aspects of structural engineering. Several of his designs have been recognized nationally and have received awards for their contribution to the profession. Recently SAI was the National Winner of the Engineering Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Steel Construction for Congregation Micah, where the design was based on Dr. Ioannides' idea of exposing the structure of the building to reflect its concept.

Because Dr. Ioannides' well-known expertise in structural steel and high-rise buildings, he was chosen to advise Maju Holdings, the parent company of Perwaja Steel (the only steel mill in Malaysia), on the use of steel construction. SAI was chosen from among firms in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and Asia to offer effective design solutions in the Pacific Rim based on innovation, creativity, and practicality. As a result, Dr. Ioannides serves as Executive Director of Perwaja Structures International, Sdn. Bhd., which was founded by SAI and two Malaysian companies. Dr. Ioannides is also assisting in educating the Malaysian construction industry on the use of structural steel and frequently presents and lectures at the Malaysian Structural Steel Association meetings in Kuala Lumpur.

Dr. Ioannides also serves as an Adjunct Professor with Vanderbilt University where he teaches, among other courses, Advanced Concrete and Advanced Steel Design to graduate students.

Prior to starting SAI, Dr. Ioannides' professional career included continuing at Vanderbilt as a teaching and research assistant and working with Stanley D. Lindsey and Associates, Ltd., Structural Engineers for ten years. During this time, his project involvement ranged from small renovation and additions to multi-story office and hotel complexes.

Project Experience
In his capacity as president of Structural Affiliates International, Inc. and as Executive Director of Perwaja Structures International, Inc., Dr. Ioannides is closely involved in every SAI and PSI project.
